Transmission for Forklifts - Using gear ratios, a gearbox or transmission supplies speed and torque conversions from a rotating power source to a different machine. The term transmission refers to the entire drive train, including the gearbox, prop shaft, clutch, final drive shafts and differential. Transmissions are more frequently used in vehicles. The transmission adapts the output of the internal combustion engine to be able to drive the wheels. These engines have to perform at a high rate of rotational speed, something that is not right for starting, slower travel or stopping. The transmission increases torque in the process of decreasing the higher engine speed to the slower wheel speed. The type of gearbox utilized in a wind turbine is a lot more complex and larger than the PTO gearboxes used in farm equipment. These gearboxes convert the slow, high torque rotation of the turbine into the quicker rotation of the electrical generator.
